Kyle Anderson Receives 2023 U.S. Department of Commerce Bronze Medal for Developing Novel HDX-MS Methods that Improve Understanding of Protein-based Drugs
NIST-IBBR scientist Kyle Anderson is the recipient of a 2023 U.S. Department of Commerce Bronze Medal. He is recognized for developing novel hydrogen-exchange mass-spectrometry methods that improve understanding of the structure and activity of protein-based drugs.
The award citation reads, “Dr. Anderson is honored for developing novel improvements to the technique of hydrogen-deuterium mass spectrometry (HDX-MS), which facilitates studies of the complex folding and motion of proteins that comprise many new pharmaceuticals. Dr. Anderson's method for removing interfering sample components enables automated analysis of a class of molecules that could not be measured previously by HDX-MS, and he was key to the development of a reduced-temperature system that achieves unprecedented measurement accuracy, thereby providing industry tools for creating new and effective drugs.”
This prestigious award was presented to Dr. Anderson at the 51st Annual NIST Awards Ceremony on January 24, 2024, by the NIST Director, Laurie Locascio.
