Edward Eisenstein Named Fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB)

Dr. Edward Eisenstein has been named a 2025 Fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). This distinguished award recognizes his exceptional accomplishments and commitments to research, education, mentorship, diversity and inclusion, advocacy, and service to the broader scientific community.
Eisenstein is an IBBR Fellow and Associate Professor in the University of Maryland Department of Bioengineering. His research focuses on developing bioenergy plants, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, capable of withstanding various environmental challenges. The team’s current research focuses on engineering poplar trees to enhance their use as bioenergy feedstock. Outside of his demonstrated research endeavors, Eisenstein was previously named a UMD Faculty Fellow and was recognized for his mentorship to UMD International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) teams. His work is furthering innovative research in the realms of bioengineering and sustainability.
Along with the other 23 fellows, Eisenstein will be recognized at the ASBMB annual meeting in Chicago, April 12-15.
