Dr. David Weber Recognized as Distinguished University Professor

Dr. David Weber, Co-Director of the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), Director of the Center for Biomolecular Therapeutics (CBT) and Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, has been recognized with the designation of Distinguished University Professor. A total of six faculty members were selected, which is the highest appointment bestowed on a faculty member at UMB. It is a recognition not just of excellence, but also of impact and significant contribution to their field, knowledge, profession and/or practice. A convocation took place on September 12, 2024 to celebrate the awardees.
Dr. Weber is an internationally renowned biochemist and structural biologist whose research examines the structure, function, and inhibition of potential therapeutic targets in cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and infectious disease. He had a major role in developing highly collaborative and world-class structural biology resources that integrate basic and translational science.
He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received his BS in Chemistry from Muhlenberg College. He also completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Biological Chemistry. For more information on Dr. Weber’s work, please click here.
