Brian Pierce Promoted to Associate Professor
IBBR is pleased to congratulate IBBR Fellow Dr. Brian Pierce on his promotion to Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics at University of Maryland, College Park.
Dr. Pierce’s interdisciplinary research involves utilizing computer algorithms and computational modeling to lead advances in understanding the immune system. His lab’s recent efforts have been focused on investigating how T cells, an important part of the immune system, recognize antigens. Dr. Pierce’s lab has recently developed a web server to model T cell receptors with high resolution and accuracy. The Pierce lab’s research interests also include modeling antibody recognition, as well as structure-based vaccine design.
“Brian’s an outstanding computational scientist at IBBR who we all depend upon for his insights and direct contributions to advancing structural immunology, including their application to the design of novel vaccine and therapeutics. This promotion is extremely well-deserved, “ said Dr. David Weber, IBBR Co-Director.
Dr. Pierce earned his B.S. in Physics and Computer Science from Duke University and completed his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics at Boston University.
