AD-X2 Documentary Screening at IBBR Home

On Wednesday, November 20th at 3:00pm, IBBR will be hosting a screening of the documentary, "The AD-X2 Controversy." Set in the 1950s, during a time of booming economy and rapid scientific advancement, this 23-minute film tells the captivating story of a charismatic salesman who sought to profit from a chemical additive that he claimed would extend the life of car batteries. However, tests conducted by the NBS—now known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)—revealed that the additive didn’t perform as advertised. The film highlights David vs. Goliath’s struggle for scientific integrity, as the Bureau’s director Allen V. Astin (grandfather of actor Sean Astin) faced public scrutiny and political pressure. The AD-X2 Controversy not only recounts this historical drama but also prompts essential discussions about integrity in science.

Following the screening, we will host a panel discussion where you can engage with the film’s themes along with a networking social with refreshments. Please CLICK HERE to register.

Here is a behind-scenes interview with the director/writer José Ricardo García who talks about the production of the film.
